EcoGreen has similar mechanical and physical properties as cast acrylic sheets produced with synthetic monomer methyl methacrylate. It offers light transmittance above 92% and provides the basis for LEED v4.1 points. The manufacturing process uses less water and generates less CO2 than cast acrylic sheets produced with synthetic monomer which significantly reduced the carbon footprint.
How EcoGreen is Made
EcoGreen starts with acrylic scraps generated internally from domestic fabricators and customers of Chemcast®.
The recycled monomer methyl methacrylate is obtained by a de-polymerization process that recovers liquid monomer from PMMA, “characterized by the breaking of polymeric bonds which can turn the solid polymer into a gummy liquid.”
Next, recycled MMA is obtained by the de-polymerization process that recovers from PMMA the original liquid monomer.
